Britney Spears debuts "Womanizer" video featuring Brandon Stroughton

Britney Spears debuted her "Womanizer" video on ABC Friday night, but it wasn't Britney who caught my eye. It was male model Brandon Stroughton.

You may have seen Mr. Stroughton before, because of course this gorgeous guy is an underwear model. He works with LA Models.

As for the "Womanizer" video, it reminded me a lot of "Toxic." Who can complain though? I'm just glad to see Britney is back (and she brough hottie model Brandon Stroughton with her!)

Welcome back Brit, and welcome to the spotlight Brandon!

Britney as News

Courant: Four weeks until the election that will determine the next president and following the historic week when the Dow fell 1,800 points, "20/20" was consumed with other things.

Sure, there was a piece on the financial meltdown (an outrageous story that blamed people who were being foreclosed, or who they called "people who borrowed money for real estate they didn't deserve to own" Get that? Deserve. They're not one of us).

It fit with the political story of the night, squeaky John Stossel wondering if stupid people at a rock concert should be allowed to vote (one, after all, thought that the U.S. had 51 states. Maybe he should be deported as well as disenfranchised).

But both of those reports were minor compared to the marquee events in the newsmagazine. Leave it to others to talk global financial crisis or future U.S. presidential election. Barbara Walters wanted to talk about Peter Cook, a little known Long Island architect (and not the British comic of the same name), about his divorce from Christy Brinkley.

This apparently is an item of some note in the tabloids. He had an affair with a teenager. He had what they called a "$3,000 a month online porn habit.

And Walters, who had recently come clean about her own affairs with a married congressman earlier in her career, demanded to know: "How often did you have sex and where?" And a follow up: "Why?"

Grim stuff. But on par with the show's kicker, a world premiere of Britney Spears new video "Womanizer," an event that barely had a news context at all. They just got the rights to it and wanted to show it.

And after all the pooh-poohing of Cook's habits, here was a naked Britney blurred by staammroom clouds becoming a boy toy in a series of disguises: brunette office coworker, redhead waitress (or exotic dancer, they both moved the same way), aggressive chauffeur. The various personas were meant to prove her man was living up to the song's title. But mostly they were meant to titillate home viewers, goose ratings and maybe save Cook some of his $3,000 with the free use.
